Coastal Prairie Partnership New Prairie Exhibit Wins 2 Prizes!

The new Coastal Prairies: Houston's Heartland was a big hit at the recent Florescence flower show at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (April 18-19). We taught hundreds of folks about our prairies and won two flower show prizes as well (including the coveted Ann Lyon Crammond Award for excellence). Coastal Prairie Partnership Seed Packing Party a huge hit!

On Wednesday Decemer 8th, 20 volunteers packed 2,000+ seed packets in Houston! These packets will be distributed to local schools, garden clubs, scouts, and private individuals as part of Katy Prairie Conservancy's Great Grow Out citizen-conservation program. This program generated over 2,500 plants for KPC in 2010. Houston Audubon, who provided seeds for party, will also receive hundreds of seed packets for their use and some seeds will also be distributed to volunteer seed growers in…

Theo Ostler Meadow Mania

On Saturday the Houston Arboretum had 21 volunteers come out to help us plant 470 new prairie grasses and forbs in the meadow. The rain did not dampen our spirits and we had everything planted by 11:00. Species represented were Indian grass, Big bluestem, Canadian wild rye, Switch grass, Bushmint, Partridge pea and Chili pequin. Check out the photos in the album in Multimedia.
